This was by far the most comfortable shoe I tried on and 8 months later I still love them, but wore a hole in the toe from my early days of foot mashing on the walls.

Know if you’re a rookie like I was, the toe will wear out if you use the wall like sand paper instead of more seasoned foot work. Mine lasted ~8 months and I just ordered a new pair that will hopefully last 12 months with better footwork.

I bought these as my first climbing shoe, and they’ve been great. They’re comfortable and perform well. There is one main problem that I wish I knew about ahead of time though. I climb without socks, as alot of people I know do, and after about 10 to 15 uses, they begin to smell pretty bad. So if you have somewhere to put them and let them air out it shouldn’t be too big a deal, but its something to know

  3. the defys are comfortable and preform well for the majority of climbing styles. they are quite soft which makes them good for steeper climbing and very comfortable but reduces durablity. i think they are good shoes but would say that they are not a good beginner shoe. i can see the appeal to beginners as they are comfortable but ultimately feel that a beginner needs a shoe they can abuse. a good shoe for the advanced and intermediate climber but i would recommend something more durable for a beginner.

  5. These shoes are spectacular. They are comfortable to wear for a whole entire climbing session and not even take your shoes off. They are a great all around shoe that perform good in all aspects. I highly recommend them for someone looking for a reliable shoe that does it all or a person looking to buy their first pair of climbing shoes. You can’t go wrong with the defys.

  6. I have owned two pairs of these shoes over a 1 year period. Climbed mostly indoor and a couple trips outdoors. They are very comfortable but… They do not have that aggressive feel which made them not very good on micro foot chips. The main problem I had was the durability. My last pair lasted about 3 months before I had a huge hole in the toe. I wouldn’t buy these shoes again.
